Handmade Christmas TREES? Help?

handmade-christmas-trees-help

Okay, here’s the thing. I see Christmas pretty much as a tie to stress out (family issues. Rawr.) and decorate. The last bit is possibly the only reason why I like it at ALL anymore, actually.

But Mum refuses to put our tree up. At all. And I don’t have space for the family tree in my room, so I can’t put it up in here (plus, seriously, who wants to work out if red or green goes at the bottom?) and the only tree I’ve found downtown that I liked was a, $50 and b, still too big.

So I’m trying to work out a handmade version, but I’m honestly stumped. Does anyone have any ideas? Preferably ones I can move away from my cats reach? I wouldn’t mind something I could get away with making ornaments for all year… It’s soothing.

My Father Loves me!

Which makes me happy to stupidly ridiculous levels. Beause there were a few years when we never spoke and I rang him about a month ago and we talked and now he’s rung back. :D

But I have a small problem. I want to make him something for Christmas (that I can mail, he lives in Queensland) and I don’t know what to make. And he says he’s colour blind, which sort of makes my normally colourful things sort of moot. Any ideas? He likes red.

Decorations!

And not the seasonal sort, thank you kindly. Though there’s plenty of it to go up soon enough.

I have managed to find my self bunches of sort of awesome fabric at St. Vinnie’s today, including a large sheet size piece of fabric with ornate pots, watering cans, seats, urns and the like on it. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and I think it’s polyester, I’ll take a photo and see if anyone knows what it is tomorrow.

I also managed to get a fully in tact mosquito net style med canopy today, it’s lacy, sort of awesome, only cost me five dollars and saves me having to make one from scratch for the moment… but just one small thing. Does anyone know how to put screws in really tough ceilings? :flail:

I’m going to go try and work this out now. And possibly make some fabric butterflies. Or something. Maybe ravens.

When are you gonna realize… it was just that the time was wrong?

when-are-you-gonna-realize-it-was-just-that-the-time-was-wrong

I’ve been working on an idea, a project… if you will. Not (yet) another story, but an rpg. I have a problem, though. My muse apparently isn’t being very helpful with names. So I’m going to be willing to suck it up and ask for a little help.

Of course, you’ll need to know what I’m working on to help, so I’ll give you a basic rundown.

What I’m planning is an AU[i] Arthurian RPG with a bit of an extra fantastical twist. It’s set in the basic idea that most people have of early medieval  Britain, near the 5th century, actually. Christianity is there but so is the old magic… more of which keeps appearing, for whatever reason. Arthur is just King and hasn’t married Gwen (She married Lancelot, as I said… this is an AU), but rather Morgana/Morgan Le Faye… Yes, I do know she’s his half sister and some people are bothered by this… but.. *shrugs*. I know for a fact I’m not the only person who thinks they belong this way XD . With the emergence of new/forgotten types of fey and magical critters, a lot of the Christian folk want to get rid of them… and in response those who keep to the old ways are ready to get up in arms.

So a break from the Saxons they may have, for the time being but Arthur, Morgana and all the other lords and ladies and… well, everyone right down to the milkmaid and her mother have to work out what they’re going to do, and how to avoid civil war or a massacre of either side.

And I’m stuck for names. Bugger me sideways.

Any ideas? The best I came up with is “Albion” and “Camelot” and they kind of suck. Too generic… And of course, I can’t start setting up the game until I have a name. Sigh.

Plugins For Webserial Owners…

plugins-for-webserial-owners

It’s been a while since we started planning this, in fact it was sometime after I wrote up and posted Design Tips For Webserial Writers in an effort to assist a group of my favourite people in an area I happen to know a bit about – finding good, solid designs that won’t turn readers away. As with that post this one is focused on Wordpress users (self hosted, not wordpress.com users, sorry!).

There is something of a difference, though. I didn’t do this by myself but with the help of someone who indeed knows a bit more about Webserials than I do. This is where Alex McG who writes the Webserial “Children of the First” comes in. After I realized Alex had commented on my Design Tips post (a whole month later, sorry!) As you can see if you go back and read the comments I mentioned that I was considering writing a post on plugin’s as well and Alex wanted to help – who was I to say no?

That being said, this has taken an inordinate amount of time to get out but I hope it was well worth the wait, I’ve never done collaborative blog posting let alone organizing list’s of things that we reconmend and it probably shows but here we go!

Also, as of this posting I believe we are both on Wordpress 2.7 so you should check to see if the plugins will work for you.

Alex has posted his HERE, please check it out.
