owlish-intentions

So while I probably should be working on the special post Alex and I are working on, or rewriting/continuing any one of my current W.I.P.’s. Perhaps cleaning my room, playing with the cats…

Basically while I shouldn’t be procrastinating…

I want to show you Blind Bertha.

Bertha

Click to make it bigger.

Bertha is a little plainer than I’d like, and not at all perfect… but I’ll admit, I did her in a rush. She’s probably only five or six centimetres tall and very purple and pink. The beak was actually a more royal purple, but the lighting was crap and I couldn’t be bothered editing it in photoshop (I used Picnik). The reason I made Bertha was for my Aunty Bec who recently had her birthday and  I wanted to give her something….

Okay.

Also because I have this obsession with owls. I blame J.K. Rowling. :read:

Anyway, I called her Blind Bertha because those seed bead eyes I made her are quite light against the white fabric in real life and my bead box is a mess. Someone come an organize my sewing stuff for me, please? I drew the “pattern” myself, mostly as I went along though I think I might have to make a few modifications. And fix/ be rid of that fugly tail.

I wish she had come out as good as Alice’s owls. P.S. She’s all hand sewn, and took inordinate amounts of time. That is all.

I know I’m lousy at these things, but between the Ag Show (Town Fair type thing), My sisters birthday, various family issues and the designing of bunch of new layouts and a website… well. Blogging wasn’t really my first instinct.

I took a bunch of photos at the show, mostly of animals and the Punch and Judy show. We watched that more than a few times, to say the least. There’s something about puppets that makes me happy, even if it also makes my arms want to ache a little bit. You see when I was eight or nine the Church was organizing a Kids Club Extravaganza for Christmas, and as part of that we did a puppet show. Bradley and I were the Puppeteers and for weeks we had to walk around with these Sesame Street size puppets on our arms so we could hold them up long enough for the “show” as it were.

Though, if I’m remembering quickly the puppets were more like Narrators. I had Penny, she had nearly hot pink skin and yellow plaits. I’m still a little fond of her, though she belongs to Janelle.

Needless to say, holding a heavy puppet on ones arm for over half an hour at a time can get painful… and hot. But it was fun, at the time. And I felt useful, which is something I think.

Though in lieu of boring you with my very strange past, I shall continue. There were show bags and stalls and carnival games as usual. The same old folk selling the same old stuff – more or less. The Show bags are always interesting… but not as much as they were when I was younger, as with most things. We did a lot of wandering around. The show lasts for three days, but only the farmers really go on the first day.

My sister loves the show bags. She can’t seem to help it, the damn things are so kid friendly it’s a wonder we didn’t go completely broke. I got a little metal Bast statue from a Gold and Gems stand, which also tried to sell us a bag of dirt possibly full of gems and things and then tried to sell us a gold pan. I can say from experience – Gold panning? Not so fun.

There’s a reason why it used to be work not play.

I was happy to see that Mr Nice Cream was there. I’m not sure were it comes from, it’s an ice cream truck but it has the nicest soft serve ice creams… possibly ever. Since I only get them once a year, I let myself have as many as I cant/can afford.

Yes. That’s me, sucking at self discipline again… I honestly wish I cared. xD

They also had some amusing displays, like the one to the left. I don’t quite recall what it was for now, but it may have been a spa thing.

There is a trick to it, it’s only illusion of course but you can guess at it.

I got a second, bigger Bast statue in the afternoon – She’s very lovely, I’ll have to take a photo one of these days. She’s in full colour and looks… well. Godly. :D

Um. What else. I got a silver ring with a pentacle on it, which made me more than a little ecstatic. This is one of the reasons why I love the Show, there is always stalls from out of town, which means products from out of town.. which of course means things that under normal circumstances I could not buy. It’s very plain, but I’m happy with it.

We had fireworks, too. They’re over here on my channel. I don’t know if theres much else to say about the show.. it went like they generally do. Rain. Noise. Fireworks, etc.

Lily’s birthday was more or less quite, apart from her usual fussing over nothing in particular, at least. I made her a cake to take to school it was only a normal butter cake but I marbled it with vanilla and dark chocolate sides. Apparently the children were impressed and kept telling mum how good it was. There was hardly a piece left when Lily brought it home in the evening. I.. guess thats a good thing ><

Kids.

I’m tired, can’t think of much else, but I’ve probably talked too much already.
