I’ve been working on a new character for Circus of the Damned the past few days. Another shapeshifter, a cousin for my submissive Wereleopard – Mia Dubois. This new girls name is Angelica Rosalie Dubois. She’s older than Mia, connected on her fathers side. And shes a werelion. An alpha, no less. It struck me, and keeps doing so as I learn more about her, how alive characters can be sometimes. I mean, I of course realized this before, having been making characters for years. But compared to how quiet Mia is, Angelica is like the big bloody bang.

And she’s no angel, either.

I’ve learnt that she likes vampires. A lot. That she likes jades and ambers. That she’s powerful enough to partially shift and that shes strong enough to resist some of Gerards little play attempts to get her to fall. Which is impressive. I’ve also learnt that despite how alpha she is, she is willing to be food – a lot of the alpha tend towards having issues with that. She seems to have realized that Vampires are not the enemy, or at least not a major concern. She also has an odd sense of humour and a taste for danger – which could explain why shes given herself up to a sociopathic vampire.

She’s sort of like Switzerland. She couldn’t care less what he is or what he’s done or the danger she puts herself in by being near him. All previous offenses are moot points to her. When he’s with her he can be as scary as he wants, because she’s not frightened of him.And I don’t know why. Mia’s not frightened of him, but she was rolled like a Sunday drunk. Mia doesn’t even know what kind of Vampire Gerard is.

Angelica worked it out on her own. It amused her terribly, too. She actually looked him in the eye and said ‘you’re one of hers.’ no ifs, no buts, she just worked it out.

I don’t think there’s a point to this post, I’m just working out how she works in my head. She’s different to most of my characters somehow.
